MP Assembly elections 2018: Day later, Digvijay Singh is Boss

Former Chief Minister Digvijay Singh, who was said to be sidelined in the Congress, has been calling the shots finally. Singh, who is keeping himself behind the curtains, is playing a key role in ticket distribution in the party. Besides the report of survey conducted by Congress state president Kamal Nath, the feedback of the candidates taken by Singh during his Narmada Parikrama and Samanvaya Yatra has become the main basis of selection of candidates.

Nath, excluding Chhindwara, does not have much information about state leaders. He has left the work of candidate selection entirely to Singh. The names suggested by Singh are given priority. The first list of candidates of Congress will be shaped as per recommendations of Singh. Singh, although, has recommended strong candidates suggested by other leaders, along with candidates of MP Jyotiraditya Scindia and leader of opposition Ajay Singh.

With Singh getting command of ticket distribution, former state president Suresh Pachauri have become tense, who wanted to get ticket to his followers in Bhopal and Hoshangabad.  There are several seats in Gwalior Chambal area, which come under Scindia’s dominance, where candidates have not been finalized. The names finalized include the followers of all leaders. With Singh playing key role in shaping list of candidates, the intention of Scindia to launch young leaders in the fray are not getting materialized.

The first list of Congress would mostly include those leaders who have contested elections in the past. In this situation, the planning of giving ticket to fresh candidate may not see the light of day.It is also certain that when ticket distribution would be done according to Singh’s choice, Singh and Nath would be dominating in Congress legislature party too.
