Keep close eyes on paid news: State Election Commissioner


HOSHANGABAD  : All  necessary preparations should be made for the elections to Sarni, Aathner and Chincholi municipal committees in the Betul district. Special vigil should be maintained vis-à-vis law and order and paid news.

This was started by state election commissioner R. Parshuram while reviewing the preparations for the polls at a meeting at the commissioner’s officer here on Saturday. Commissioner Umakant Umrao and Betul collector Shashank Mishra were present at the meeting.

Parshuram said that the notification for the polls would be issued on July 17. On the same day, reservation of seats and list of polling booths would be announced. The nomination forms would be made available would be accepted from that date till July 24. The nomination papers would be scrutinised on July 25 and July 27 would be the last date for withdrawal of nominations. On the same day, the list of candidates would be announced and symbols would be allotted to them. Voting will be held on August 9 (if needed). Counting would be taken up on 12 August and on the same date, results would be announced.

The commissioner also issued instructions with regards to monitoring the expenditure of the candidates, paid news and MCMC committee. He told Umrao and Mishra that in view of the rainy season, care should be taken to protect the EVMs from water.

Plastic bags should be purchased for the machines for which funds would be separately provided. He said the notices issued to the candidates regarding their poll expenses would be uploaded on the website of the state election commission. He said the published publicity material of the candidates and of the political parties should be scrutinised closely. He said that the electronic media should be kept under surveillance.

He said the collector should keep in touch with the media and the candidates and should conduct the polls in the most free and fair manner. Shashank Mishra told the meeting that all arrangements have been made for the polls. Among others, deputy commissioner state election commission Girish Sharma and deputy commissioner Santosh Verma were present at the meeting.
