BHOPAL : The state government, already in the throes of a financial crisis, tabled the third supplementary budget of Rs 5,889 crore in the state Assembly on Wednesday. The government has shown unusual generosity in making allocations for Simhastha. A sum of Rs 800 crore has been sanctioned for the budget. Although Finance Department has banned purchase of new vehicles, a budget of Rs 5 crore has been allocated for buying new vehicles for Simhastha.

A sum of Rs 4.13 crore has been sanctioned for training. Rs 270 crore has also been allotted as supplementary grant. Rs 190 crore has been allocated for other expenses.

No official was in a position to explain the rationale behind buying new vehicles worth Rs 5 crore for an event that would last for merely a month – and this when the Finance Department has banned purchase of new vehicles. Barely three months have been left for Simhastha and in this situation; spending money in the name of training is nothing but sheer wastage.

Govt to pay Rs 345 crore as interest

The supplementary budget has Rs 345 crore as interest at a time when it is already in debt. A big part of the interest is to be paid on the money borrowed from the market.
