BHOPAL : A large number of farmers led by Congress leaders resorted to road blockage for three hours from 11am to 3pm on Bhopal-Indore Road at Phunda on Friday after Mandi officials denied to purchase the faded wheat referring it as ‘substandard’ wheat. However, later collector Nishant Warwade assured for procurement of the faded wheat if it is good in taste after intervention of Leader of Opposition in Vidhan Sabha Satyadev Katare.
Phanda block resident farmers led by Congress leader Rajendra Mandloi, Maan Singh Patel and others blocked the road in protest after Seva Sahakari Samiti, Kachlabh, refused to procure wheat and shouted slogan against Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan.
However, recently, Chauhan had assured the hail-hit farmers that even faded wheat would be purchased at Minimum Support Price (MSP) but as Mandi officials were not intimated about the CM’s instructions they refused to purchase the farmers’ wheat at MSP in Mandi. Food Corporation of India (FCI) procures the wheat through various cooperative societies in the state.
Congress leader Rajendra Mandloi said, ” Just because of the untimely rain, colouring of wheat got faded so cooperatives society (Seva Sahakari Samiti, Kachlabh) refused to purchase it. This is why we had to resort to road blockage to register the protest. We have handed over a memorandum to SDM Maya Awasthi. In the meantime, leader of opposition Satyadev Katare arrived at the agitation site and he talked to collector Nishant Warwade who assured for procurement if the wheat is good in taste despite being discoloured. After then we called off our protest.”
