Bhopal: Two die in truck-container collision on NH-3; traffic choked for 6 hours

Dharampuri: Two persons were reportedly killed in a truck-container collision near here on Rau-Khalghat national highway no. 3 on AB Road at about 4 am on Sunday.

According to sources, a truck (no. MP-09-HG-1660) while passing through Ganpati Ghat area rammed the divider on the road and stopped mounted on it, when a speeding container (no MH-46-H-6960) coming from opposite direction collided with it head-on. The collision was so severe that the truck driver Maniram, resident of Jhansi (UP) and container driver Santosh died on the spot and both the vehicles were completely damaged with wheat loaded on the truck spilled over on the road.

The accident caused a severe traffic jam on the stretch and normal traffic movement could be restored only after 7 hours at around 11 am on Sunday. Toll officials reached the spot at about 8 am and it took them three hours to remove the mangled remains of the vehicles with the help of cranes and clear the scattered wheat to resume traffic movements.

With this severe accident, locals rued that the Ganpati Ghat on Rau-Khalghat highway stretch has become a zone severely prone to accident due to increasing entry of heavy vehicles.
