Bhopal: Rs 45k sari to grace 10-day silk expo

BHOPAL: Mrignaynee Emporium, GTB Complex is introducing Chanderi sari priced at Rs 45,000 in muslin cotton for the first time for the woman of the city. The cream coloured sari is in pure muslin stuff with golden zari work. Apart for this, the emporium is also introducing a Chanderi sari in ‘Do Chashmi’ design the first time under a 10-day exhibition-cum-sale ‘Cottons of MP’. It is noteworthy here that the sari in same pattern was displayed in London in 1990 and appreciated a lot by visitors.

Speaking about specialty of the pattern, ML Sharma said, “The most important thing of the royal sari is that it can be worn from both sides. It is available in blue and pink colours with gold and silver zari border. Earlier, such kind of sari was used by royal family only. We have 20 pieces of ‘Do Chashmi’ design. Not only this, we are going to showcase some rare collection of Chanderi sari in pure and semi muslin stuff of MP for the first time under the exhibition. The range starts from Rs 3,500 to 45,600.”

“It is said that the muslin cotton came from Lukhauti village of Dhaka (Bangladesh) to MP. Now it has become traditional handloom sari of MP,” said Sharma adding, “We have now 5,000 varieties of Chanderi sari in multiple colours and stuffs including cotton and silk. And it is very much popular among women for its royal look. And the durability of the stuff is 30 years.” The exhibition would begin Monday and continue till April 30.
