Bhopal: The Guna in-charge chief executive officer had issued notices for the removal of 44 sarpanch, while three panchayat secretaries have been suspended. Irregularities worth several crores of rupees have come to the forefront in construction of cremation ground in Guna district. The CEO of district panchayat, on Thursday had set 72 hours deadline to complete the work of under constructed 750 incomplete projects.
Talking to Free Press over phone CEO Niyaz Khan informed that taking action against negligent elected village representatives who failed to deliver, the administration has started the procedure to remove 44 sarpanch. While three secretaries have been suspended and salary increment of 41 has been withheld. Not only this, but the administration is going to file case against the secretaries and sarpanch for embezzling the government fund, the CEO said.
In the year 2013-14, Rs 3.5 to 4 lakh were allocated to 1100 village panchayats each to construct the cremation ground in their areas. However, 779 village panchayats failed to complete the work. Besides, at some villages the project has not even started yet. The sarpanch and panchayat secretary of these villages withdrew the whole amount and did only partial work. At some places work did not even start, while in some villages it remains incomplete. In some areas the work was completed without quality clearance by the engineers of the RES department.
The CEO said that during the assessment on last Thursday, fresh orders were issued to all the 779 panchayats to complete the work within 72 hours. After three days it was found that only 224 panchayats got the work complete, on which Rs 8 crore were spent. In the coming days more panchayats will get the work done, the officer said.
