Bhopal: Leopard cub in OT; authorities says it’s a challenge to save it

Bhopal: It’s a challenge for the Van Vihar National Park authorities to save ‘Saheb’, the 22-days-old leopard cub which was rescued from Bhojpur temple vicinity a week ago. Though the health of the cub is improving, the authorities, however, have shifted it to from the leopard enclosure to the Operation Theatre (OT) of the park to keep it away from any infection.

Right from its medical supervision to feeding, the Van Vihar administration is monitoring it 24×7. The main issue before the authorities is to keep it protected from any infection. A team of doctors has been deployed at the park to keeping an eye on any development.

Van Vihar director Sangeeta Rajora, while talking to Free Press, said “ the cub was just 14-15 days old when it was rescued as it can hardly open its eye. Since then, it is under our supervision. We have shifted it to OT to keep it protected from any infection. Veterinary doctors are constantly monitoring it. There is nothing serious about this cub, but since it is at very delicate stage do it is a bit challenging to keep it in best health.” We are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that in coming days it gains good health and is live and kicking, she added.

Gynecologist Dr Kamal Laad, the wife of former principal chief forest conservator (PCCF) PM Laad, is taking care of cub. She is extending all medical support to Van Vihar authorities. “I being a gynecologist is applying all knowledge used in treating a human being while handling the cub. I am doing my level best to see that all medical support is provided to it,”Laad said.

Ex-PCCF PM Laad said, “Life of cub is quite uncertain till it attains age of four to five months. So it would be quite premature to say anything about it. But we are doing our level best to save the cub which is in OT.”
