Bhopal: IGRMS celebrates International Museum Day

Bhopal: Various activities including ‘Khajane Ki Khoj’, guiding talk and lecture were organised at Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Manav Sangrahalaya (IGRMS) on Thursday.  It was organised by IGRMS to observe International Museum Day which falls on May 18 every year. The programme began with competition ‘Khajane Ki Khoj’. As many as 130 people participated in the competition by making 65 teams. Each team had two members to whom a three set of question, bag and water bottle given. After that the team had to search treasure after reading the given slip.  Director of the museum, Prof Sarit Kumar Chaudhury flagged off the team from the museum and it was followed by museums and historical heritage, located Shyamla Hills, Kamla Park, Banganga. The competition concluded when the team returned at the museum after solving questions.  The winner team would felicitate with cash prize first, second, third and consolation prize.

The programme was followed by guiding talk, centred on Bison-Horn-Maria memorial pillar. Dr P Shanker Rao shared some interesting information related the rituals of the traditional wooden pillar of Bastar, Chhattisgarh.  The programme concluded with lecture on ‘Date which cannot be sad: trying and feeling to follow the holocaust museum paradigm in India’ by Professor Kavita Singh, JNU New Delhi.  She talks about existence and important of  one of the three popular and oldest museums across world including Yard museum of Jerusalem, Khalsa Heritage Memorial, Anantpur, Punjab and  Tibetan  Museum, Dharmshala, Himachal Pradesh. It was presided over by Prof Chaudhury.
