Bhopal: On the eve of the meeting of the Akhil Bharatiya Karyakari Mandal of the RSS, the Sangh launched an acerbic attack on Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi.  Manmohan Vaidya, the all-India publicity head of the RSS told journalists on Wednesday that when Rahul’s father and his grandmother were powerful, they had opposed the RSS for no apparent reason. But despite their opposition, the RSS flourished and grew while their own popular base shrunk.

Rahul had recently attacked the RSS asking whether anyone had seen a woman in an RSS shakha. Vaidya advised Rahul to ask his speech-writers to first understand the Sangh. He said that Rahul should have better intellectuals for company. He said that Rahul need not worry about the Sangh. “Let him worry about the women in his party and spare the Sangh”.

He said that the RSS was founded only for working among men. “Asking whether anyone has seen a woman in an RSS Shakha is like asking why there is no woman in a men’s hockey’s match,” he said. Vaidya said that Rahul should concentrate on increasing the popular base of his own party.

He said that the Sangh does accommodate women in its Janprabodhan and other projects. “The Congress should better let the Sangh decide what it wants to do and what it does not,” he said.  He said that the Congress should compete with the BJP and not with the Sangh, which, he said, never has had any competitor since it came into being. He said that the Sangh was running 50,000 shakhas in the country without the patronage of any government. “We depend solely on the strength of our workers,” he said. Regarding triple talaq, Vaidya said that it was an issue of Muslim women and they should take a decision on it.
