9 Fast track courts for crimes against women this month

CM to meet CJ with proposal for all districts

BHOPAL: Fast track courts, for speedy trial in crimes against women will be put in place this month in the state. The law department has sent the file related to constitution of these courts to the High Court and after chief justice appoints the judges of these courts, the notification will be issued by the state government.

According to information, the HC would resume work after winter break on January 2, after which it would complete the process needed for constitution of the fast track courts. Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chauhan plans to travel to Jabalpur on January 3 to meet the CJ and request him to complete the process at his end at the earliest.

The government wants Fast Track courts in all district headquarters. Chauhan, on February 27, in his vote of thanks on Governor’s address in the Assembly, had announced setting up of fast track courts for crime against women. Chauhan had made the announcement in the wake of an incident of gang rape with two girls in Betma of Indore. Taking a serious view of the recent gang rape in Delhi, the government has decided to establish fast track courts in every district in the state.

Sources say the state government wishes to set up fast track courts for immediate disposal of crimes against women. Law minister Narottam Mishra said a proposal of setting up of 9 fast track court has been forwarded and a proposal to set up fast track in every district of the state would also be soon put up before the cabinet.
